Labor Day Was Awesome

Hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend! It was a great time to catch up on some much needed rest for me(I’m finally getting settled after back to back road trips) and I was also able to enjoy listening/watching my husband in his element, DJing at Moods Music for the Recovery Party--the close to the Atlanta Weekender.

It was great being able to get out and enjoy the great weather and the energy of all the house music heads. The sights and sounds of Little Five Points, but I don’t think anything made me more giddy than harvesting my second sugar baby watermelon of the season.

I got started pretty late with planting these and I had a few that never fully developed on the vine. But all in all it has been a good growing season. I can’t wait to crack this one open and have a little taste of summer.

Labor Day was awesome! How was your holiday and what did you do? Did you get anything from the garden?

And as always, keep growing :)

The Emergence:Sunflower Edition

Well look who has decided to pop up and make an appearance in the garden.

The mammoth sunflowers that I planted this past Sunday.

I tried to clear out a nice little patch so these big beauties can grow, I really can't wait to see how tall they'll get. I've grown sunflowers before, but nothing over 6 ft tall.

Has anyone ever grown this variety of sunflower? What did you like or not like about growing this variety?

I already know one thing I can't wait for with this variety---collecting sunflower seeds to enjoy later in the season.
