Harvesting Garlic

This is my first time ever harvesting garlic in April, I usually do my harvesting in mid to late May. Since I planted some of the garlic  bulbs a lot earlier(early September) than my usual planting time(late October), I began to notice that the earlier planted bulbs' stalks  were beginning to turn yellow and the plants were starting to lean a little. So, that was a little earlier this month and fast forward a few weeks later, I had more yellow color to the stalks and garlic plants that are completely on the ground or leaning all over each other. Now the time is right to dig up some bulbs...check out my first garlic harvest of thr season.

40 Cloves

Getting the garlic gloves ready to plant. I counted 40 cloves of garlic that need to get into the garden soon. I really wanted to have all the garlic in by now, but last week something came up and I didn't make it to the garden last weekend. There's already another group of garlic planted in the garden, but I was hoping to have all of the garlic planted by last week, but it's okay, at least I'll have everything in before Halloween.

Time to Harvest the Garlic

This garlic was really overdue for harvesting, I meant to pull these up at least three weeks ago.....can you notice the lean the plants have....that's how I know they're ready. Some people dig their garlic up when most of the bottom leaves turn brown, and I think that's cool, but I like that extra satisfaction of the lean because the plant is saying, "Hey, I'm ready!" I like using the lean method for harvesting my garlic, do you have a particular method that you like to use?
