Happy Thursday!

Well, Happy Thursday! I'm sitting up at 12:30 a.m. because I fell asleep before 8 p.m. and now my whole sleep schedule is off, and since I'm up, I thought I'd stop by and share a picture of the kale
growing under the grow lights. This happens to be a new variety, I'm growing this year(can't recall the name at this moment). Well, I really don't have much else to share except: here's my Kale, isn't she cute! 🥳❤️😍

Happy gardening!

Peace over Clicks

Here I am back in the blogosphere and celebrating a new year! Hope everyone's doing well or as well as can be. I've been away handling a family emergency, if you follow me on YouTube you know a bit about the situation and speaking pf YouTube, I hope to be back and up and running over there soon. The consistency might not be the same, but I'm going to do my best to bring my gardening videos and blogging to the forefront, however, I am still managing a family illness/emergency and my health is the number one priority over clicks and views.

Peace and love,

Shelly a.k.a greenatlmom 😊

Welcome to a New Week

Hope everyone had a great 4th!! I definitely did!  I was able to spend time with my sister and nephew for the 4th once again. My two oldest children also hung out with us once again as well, for the majority of the holiday weekend, and my other daughter and granddaughter hung out with us on the last day and we were able to get some pool time in.

We all live in the same state, so we can see each other regularly, however, we live on the otherside of town from each other and just the thought of traveling across town can be tiresome. Thank goodness for public transportation more specifically the train. Our transit system is called Marta and I must give them their props for how smoothly and fast the trains ran over the holiday weekend. It actually felt like the trains were running on a normal schedule rather than a longer holiday schedule wait time.

Well anyways we had a fantastic time cooking burgers, seeing fireworks and enjoying an eighties cover band before the fireworks, and we also took in a small hike at a park, the day after and afterwards enjoyed a meal at a DragonBall Z  themed Vitamese restaurant. Later that evening, we all settled in to watch the movie, Sinners.
On our last day, we made time for the pool, and it was so refreshing and relaxing. I absolutely love being in the water and I was so happy to have my granddaughter in the water as well. She's 9 months and she absolutely loves the water, too! She liked her floatie, but she loved being out of it way more. She held onto my arm as I slowly walked around in the pool as she kicked her little legs. She did an amazing job in the water!

All in all it was a great time, had!

And before we kicked off our holiday weekend, I picked a pretty nice harvest of pepperoncini peppers!
Wishing everyone great week ahead!

Label me This

Can't wait to try these, Mr. Pen plant labels out! I purchased mine on Amazon. I tried hard not to purchase plant labels simply because I know I have some from previous seasons, but I just can't find them. So, let's go see how well these work maybe I'll do a review on them. Well, happy gardening, y'all!

Welcome to April

Watermelon plants seem to be coming along pretty well, a little leggy for some--but they'll be OK. Have a great day and welcome to April!

A Whimsical Find

Picked up these two cute sunflower pinwheels in the Dollar Tree, the other day. I actually went in the store for some garden tags or something to make my own tags/labels, but no luck with that mission.

My daughter, Kennedy and I walked throughout the whole store looking for ideas. After broswing the garden decor, we decided to search for some diy possibilities. Kennedy noticed these extra large straws that could possibly work. Her idea was for us to cut the straws in half and place a label inside the straw with the plant name on it. Honestly I can't remember how we were gonna to seal the straws to keep moisture out, but trust me we had something, lol.  However, that something was still a bit shaky for us and we decided against the straws. So back on the hooks they went.

As many shoppers do, we took another quick lap back in the section we started our journey in---gardening. As we we went back over items, as we spoke about their cuteness and usefulness, we found the pinwheels. Actually there were other pinwheels in the store, but we didn't like the colors and the overall look.

The ones I purchased are so me, I love sunflowers and yellow's my favorite color. Also I hope to create a fun and whimsical garden area and I feel these will get the job done.

Black Seeded Lettuce

Black seeded lettuce was planted outside on the day of March 4, 2025, its the first lettuce to be put outside and the first group of lettuce to be grown with the blueberries, again, since they did so well together last year.

My daughter,  Kennedy would like to transplant the lettuce to our backyard as they grow, and I think that could be a great idea, however,  we have to stay on top of things. Our weekends are pretty full with spring markets and getting ready for our first ever out of town market----that's right, we're traveling for the first time ever, so yeah, we have to stay on top of all of our plans.

Oh Sunday

Yesterday was Sunday and it was an amazing day! Yesterday, I felt well rested and productive and this can be hard to feel after a market day. Market days can take so much out of a person, and for me, the following days after a market are usually must needed rest days. A great rest day for me is a day spent watching TV  and stuffing my face all from the comfort of my bed.
Yesterday was a semi day of some of the latter, but some in the garden as well. I don't know if my urge to garden after a market day had something to do with trying to keep a better garden schedule, or more so, I felt energized. Honestly, the weather was great, my energy level was amazing and I took advantage of the two, to get stuff done!

Unbelievable

Guess what....I dropped my other phone and severely cracked the screen, and I just  downloaded the Blogger app again. Honestly I didn't realize Blogger wasn't on this new phone until this very morning when I wanted to upload a photo and talk about expanding my garden. Yup, I can't believe I forgot all about my day one, oh life goes on. Stay tuned for all garden adventures coming up.

I Got a Channel, Now

Been busy with life, gardening and self care. Missing time on this blog hurt me at first since I wanted to keep the blog and YouTube channel updated consistently, but something had to give--and the blog lost.

The blog lost because I've never truly built an active community here, and even though blogging is super fun, I found YouTube amazing. I no longer spent hours or days in the garden only to wait a day or two to write a post about the greens I'm planting, weather difficulties or the simple joy of playing in the dirt, now I can take you guys with me and we can go on walks together, pull weeds together, plant and harvest all on lives or just watching my shorts or videos.

You're probably wondering why all the hype for something that's been around over a decade--well, I've been a user pretty much since YouTube's inception, but becoming a content creator is much newer to me.

I love creating these badly filmed videos, for others and seeing my growth along the way. Sharing my passion for organic gardening and growing food, along with finding an active community is a huge plus.

I still plan to share my thoughts, dreams, and goals over here from time to time. In the meantime, if you'd like to visit subscribe channel greenatlmom, stop by and say hi and if you really enjoy it, subscribe.

Peace,

Shelly

Hello, Everyone!

Wow, it's been sometime since I've been over here. So much of my time has been spent in the garden and on my YouTube channel building the community over there. I'm also helping to build my daughter's Facebook business page, which is so hard to breakthrough, but I'm here for it. Growing a business requires a lot of time and energy where many days a little money is made, and a few days, no money comes your way, but you keep going because you know there are many extremely good days than, not.

I have so much more exciting things to share with you guys, but they'll have to wait until another time, I'm gonna head outside to get some footage for my YouTube channel.  I just wanted to leave my mark since nothing has been said on this page recently. Thanks for stopping by and supporting me!

Today

I cleared some weeds, well lots of weeds, planted some tomato starts, as well as planted cucumber, sunflower and eggplant seeds. Eggplants will come really late in the garden this year because the ones I started in the house didn't make it through their time indoors. They were looking so good, too, but I did have a few times where I forgot to give them their second watering. The eggplants were planted in a cardboard egg carton and plants dry out very quickly in that type of environment, and then add on the fact that Spring weather has home temperatures fluctuating so much, along with a plant parent becoming busy with other things, a loss was bound to happen. This year I loss 18 black beauty eggplants, now I'm hoping I can at least get two plants for the season.

Today....

I turned the compost and smell that delightful earthy smell with a hint of onion in one bin. What did you do today in your garden?
