Frost Is Here

Last month as the weather was cooling down and fall was slowly settling in Atlanta, I wondered how long would my bell pepper, tomato and watermelon plants continue to bloom.

The answer is always-Frost. Frost will surely kill plants, my test/question was when will the frost get here?

Atlanta weather is very inconsistent when it comes to fall, winter and sometimes spring weather. Prime example, Wednesday morning it was 27 degrees and windy with a wind chill factor of 18. Yes, 18 degrees. Now get this...the temperature is expected to be in the low 70's by the weekend.

So, my wondering is over...frost came to Atlanta this week--now back to my seed catalogs.

Just Chillin

It is another very rainy day and that means another day of housework, binge watching Netflix, Bravo shows and the second season of Floridabama Shore.

Rainy days also make me feel so sleepy, my body just wants to rest and relax. So, I'm not going to fight the feeling and I'm going to chill.

Adventures in the Garden

Earlier in the week, I spoke about planting cloves of garlic--23 to be specific, and today
I want to show more pictures of my time in the garden last weekend.
This is the area where I’ve decided to grow my garlic along with tulips--I want to
purchase tulips in the next two weeks to be able to plant the tulip bulbs in December.

This is in my front yard and is home to some lovely Canna Lilies. The canna lilies
were planted by the former occupants of the home and brought a nice pop of
color to the yard, however, my husband didn’t care for them, and thought it was a bit
much, and not to mention some of them didn’t bloom very well.

Personally, they needed to be fed and nourished with compost and compost tea, but at
that time I couldn’t focus on yard work---I had to focus on finding work and helping my
family out--well, that’s another story, but it does play a big role in me not being able to
focus on gardening, too.

Well, three weeks ago, my son and I dug up many of the calla lilies to make room for tulips
and a bit of garlic--I know….what a weird combination---I wanted to make it a majority tulip area,
but I have limited space to garden since we moved into the new house, and I just didn’t feel
complete as a gardener, last year-after harvesting garlic for eight straight years.

After clearing out the area, I filled the area with compost. Wish I had some pictures of the
compost and how different the area looked when it was added.

After compost is added to any garden many great creepy crawlies will be moving around in the
garden, and this is one shot of the many bugs seen in my garden.
Here’s another picture of the garden area---see that beautiful compost and that whole peanut shell
that didn’t breakdown.

This is a week after clearing out the garden area, and there’s tons of tomato seedlings that have
sprouted. Really wish I could make the distinction between all of the seedlings because
I would like to grow some to sell, too.
Gardening last weekend was a big success and I was able to get my garlic planted, Yay!!

Yay, It's Election Day!

First a big salute to all my early voters! Y'all did that and have set records in many states by voting early. I know in the state of Georgia a record number of 2.1 million early votes were cast.

Now, to all the others who haven't cast their vote yet, what are you waiting on...go vote!

23 Cloves

Over the weekend, I finally put a few garlic gloves in the ground---precisely 23 cloves. For me planting garlic in the first week of November is very rare, I usually have several cloves planted before Halloween---but, I think I might be okay weather wise since the weather hasn't been too cold.

The weather this past weekend was truly delightful and because I had some free time---I went to my garden.

Later in the week, I'll write a post about my adventures in the garden over the weekend, and I hope to hear about your weekend gardening adventures, too.

Did you do any gardening over the weekend, why or why not?

I Did My Part

Have you? Please get out an vote. I early voted last Thursday, tomorrow is election day---please do your part and participate.
